Incidental finding during imaging for epistaxis post nasal surgical intervention.

Age: 60 years

Limited axial images demonstrate the presence of dual mental spines and a central mental foramen. These are best appreciated on the bone windows.

Zoomed reconstructions with bone and reverse windows with arrowed mental spines. The spines are asymmetric, with the left larger than the right. In addition, dual inferior spines are present rather than four.

Case Discussion

Incidental finding of mental spines representing the anchor point of origin for the paired genioglossus (superior) and geniohyoid (inferior) muscles exquisitely demonstrated of bony density on the reverse windows.
