Pelvic pain and discharge 3 weeks after IUCD insertion.
Patient Data
Pelvic U/S scan showing empty uterus with a hyperechoic linear structure located anteriorly and to the right side of the pelvis suggesting the missed IUCD.
Palin X-ray done for screening and showing the missed IUD in the midline and inclined to the right side of the pelvis; the same location suspected in the U/S scan.
Case Discussion
Uterine perforation after IUCD insertion is not a common complication. However; it is a serious condition that should be treated to avoid any consequent bowel injury.
The U/S is the first tool for IUCD screening and misplaced detection.
Conventional x-ray is the second tool that detected the site of migrated IUCD.
IUCD migration warrants laparoscopic intervention.
