Mondor disease - penis

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Painful penile swelling for 5 days.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

The penis is in semirigid status.

Enlarged one of the superficial veins at the dorsal aspect of the penis with hypoechoic heterogeneous thrombus, in keeping with superficial thrombophlebitis.

Monophasic waveform of cavernosal arteries with loss of diastolic flow, reflecting high resistive waveform. No vasoactive agent was used.

Case Discussion

The patient gave a history of abstinence from sexual activity for 2 weeks during work travel. Then he developed pain and cord-like swelling along the dorsal aspect of the penis. The penis remained in semirigid status and the patient experienced painful ejaculation. Ultrasound shows a distended vein along the dorsal aspect of the penis with a luminal thrombus in keeping with superficial thrombophlebitis (Mondor disease).
