Case Discussion

CT pelvis showed cystic dilatation of the appendix with focal mural calcifications representing an uncomplicated appendiceal mucocele.

Mucocele of appendix can be benign or malignant, ranging from simple mucocele to mucinous cystadenoma and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma.

Mucocele of appendix can undergo various complications like superimposed infection (presenting as acute appendicitis), rupture, torsion and hemorrhage. Rupture of a malignant appendiceal mucocele can lead to pseudomyxoma peritonii.
