Presentation
Antenatal ultrasound findings of spinal bifida were in the second trimester. The patient's mother decided to continue with the pregnancy. The mother did not take folate supplements during her pregnancy. During birth, the doctor noticed a pouch-like bulge on the patient's back, and the patient did not move her lower limbs.
Patient Data
At the level of S3-S4, there is a defect in the spinal canal with protrusion of the spinal cord membranes and the formation of a herniated sac containing cerebrospinal fluid, part of the spinal cord, and spinal nerve roots.
Case Discussion
A one-day-old female was delivered normally in the hospital. The doctor noticed a pouch-like bulge on her back and also no movement of the lower limb. MRI of the spine was requested. The MRI revealed myelomeningocele of the sacral spine and tethered cord syndrome.
