Case Discussion

This case is an example of a normal mastoid series comprising of the PA skull and modified Stenvers views. These two views make up the protocol for x-ray imaging of cochlear implants at the department that this patient presented at.

As the electrodes of the cochlear implant are threaded through the superior semicircular canal during the operation, it is imperative that this canal is demonstrated clearly and in-profile. Doing so will allow the individual electrode elements in the array past the point of cochleostomy to be counted (see magnified oblique image).
