Presentation

Poor vision in the left eye.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
mri

An extra-axial mass is projecting superiorly from the left anterior clinoid. It appears isointense on T1-weighted and T2-weighted images and shows homogeneous enhancement with dural tail sign. The mass extends anteriorly along a part of the planum sphenoidale, through the left optic canal, and is continuous with the optic nerve sheath.

There is no tumor extension into the sella or expansion of the cavernous sinus

Gross Description:

The pieces of specimen range from 2 to 6 x 5 x 3 mm, gray in color, firm, and all transferred into 01 cassette.

Microscopic Description:

On one slide prepared from the received specimen and stained with(HE, it is observed: The tumor tissue has a structure consisting of nests and clusters, interspersed with areas showing a spiral structure. The tumor cells have indistinct borders, uniformly small nuclei, finely stained cytoplasm, and some cells with pseudoinclusions. The stromal tissue of the tumor shows fibrous proliferation. No atypical cells, mitoses, or necrosis are observed.

Conclusion:

Meningiothelial meningioma, WHO grade 1
