Os hypolunatum

Case contributed by Evangeline Collins
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

There was a fall at school, and the patient reports tenderness in the distal radius, suggesting a possible fracture.

Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Male

Left wrist

x-ray

A well-corticated ossific density is projected overlying the dorsal aspect of the scapholunate articulation, consistent with an accessory ossicle (os hypolunatum).

Case Discussion

Given the well-corticated features of this ossific density, it is unlikely to be a result of trauma. The imaging features are consistent with os hypolunatum.
