Presentation
Atraumatic origin of the left foot pain, swelling for the last 2 - 3 weeks. Mild local pain. No fever.
Patient Data
1st metatarsal shows periosteal reaction. 5th metatarsal shows periosteal reaction with metaphyseal region erosion. There is no fracture/ dislocation.
There is erosion of 1st metatarsal metaphysis near its base. There is 5th metatarsal periosteal reaction with erosion in mephyseal region. There is no adjacent joint effusion / soft tissue abscess/ tendon pathology. There is a non-necrotic subcentimeter sized lymphnode in the popliteal fossa. There was no inguinal lymphadenopathy.
Case Discussion
A child presented with foot pain and swelling without fever for the last 2 to 3 weeks. Radiograph and ultrasound favor osteomyelitis. Surgery was done. Pathology work up revealed a bactarial infection.
