Presentation

History of pain in the right knee.

Age: 10 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Both radiographs show an osteolytic lesion affecting the distal region of the right femur, with a wide osteoid matrix transition zone with periosteal elevation (Codman triangle periosteal reaction). No soft tissue or joint involvement is observed.

Case Discussion

This is the case of a 10-year-old patient diagnosed with osteosarcoma by pathology.

Osteosarcoma is the most common tumor in the pediatric population, predominantly in males between the ages of 10-15 years; the most common sites of presentation are the metaphyses of the long bones. Represents 1% of all cancers in the United States.
