Presentation
Sudden onset chest pain and difficult in breathing CTPA to rule out pulmonary thromboembolism.
Patient Data
Although there was no pulmonary thromboembolism, incidental note is made of patent ductus arteriosus.
Few small volume bilateral hilar lymph nodes were noted.
Both lungs were clear.
Case Discussion
Ductus arteriosus is a normal connection of the fetal circulation between the aorta and the pulmonary arterial system, which usually undergoes functional closure 48 hours after birth. Persistent patency of this is known as patent ductus arteriosus, which is a type of left to right shunt.
Our case is classified as type A according to Krichenko classification which is a conical ductus, prominent aortic ampulla with narrowing at pulmonary artery end.
