Presentation
Congestion, fever, history of pneumonia, sickle cell anemia
Patient Data
No discrete focal consolidation or pneumothorax on either side. Trace bilateral pleural effusions are present.
The heart appears within normal limits in size without significant central pulmonary vascular congestion.
The PDA duct occluder is seen in appropriate position.
Case Discussion
The usage of a PDA occluder device is a widely acceptable alternative to surgical closure for small to moderate PDAs for pediatric populations 1. Recent strides in the technology have supported the use of such devices in the occlusion of large PDAs 2. Conservative management of PDAs leads to better health outcomes in pediatric and neonatal populations 3.
