Presentation

Pain in left flank several hours after ESWL.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
ct

Large left subcapsular perirenal hematoma with active arterial bleeding. Hematoma in the perirenal fascia as well.
Well-placed double J stent in left ureter.
Tiny stones in the right renal collecting system and tiny stone fragments in the left one.

Case Discussion

Subcapsular hematoma is an uncommon complication of extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL). Its implications, due to compression of the affected kidney, include renal failure and Page kidney.
