Presentation
Pre-term neonate with hypotonia.
Patient Data
Bilateral intraventricular hemorrhage is seen anterior to the caudothalamic groove associated with ventricular dilation with no parenchymal extension, suggesting germinal matrix hemorrhage (grade III).
Bilateral increased periventricular echogenicity with multiple small periventricular cysts in the occipital and frontoparietal regions, suggesting periventricular leukomalacia (grade III).
Follow-up ultrasound after 10 days demonstrates progressive cystic change of the periventricular leukoencephalopathy and intraventricular hemorrhage.
Case Discussion
Cranial ultrasound for a pre-term neonate shows periventricular leukomalacia grade III and germinal matrix hemorrhage grade III.
