Presentation

Headache for a long time.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

There is hypoplastic bilateral vertebral artery. A persistent artery arises from the right internal carotid artery, traverses through the right hypoglossal canal to join the vertebro-basilar system - consistent with persistent hypoglossal artery.

There is also a small saccular cerebral aneurysm of the hypoglossal artery after entering the skull.

The hypoglossal artery arises from the internal carotid artery (ICA) and reforms the basilar artery.

Case Discussion

Vertebral artery hypoplasia with hypoglossal artery arises from the right distal internal carotid artery (ICA) to join the vertebro-basilar system - consistent with persistent hypoglossal artery.
