Hip pain and unable to move

Irregularities with cortical interruption and structural collapse of the right femoral head epiphysis with no separated bony fragments.

Relatively broad right femoral neck in comparison to the left side.

Normal left hip joint with preserved left femoral epiphysis.

Normal sacroiliac joints.

x-ray

Collapsed deformed resorbed partially fragmented right femoral capital epiphysis.

Normal appearance of the right acetabulum.

Maintained right hip joint space.

Normal left hip joint.

Case Discussion

Right-sided femoral capital epiphysis avascular necrosis, the most common cause of which in this age group is Perthes disease (idiopathic AVN).
