Limping left gait, painless.

Patient Data

Age: 7 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is flattening & sclerosis of the left femoral capital epiphysis and broadening of the left femoral neck.

Normal hip joint alignment.

Case Discussion

Significant clinical features to suspect Perthes disease in children are:

  • male sex

  • ages between 3 and 12 years

  • atraumatic hip pain

It is important to exclude other possible causes of osteonecrosis as Perthes disease is a diagnosis of exclusion.
