Case Discussion

Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis is a rare and benign subtype of intestinal pneumatosis. It is characterized by multi-chamber, gas-filled cysts in the submucosal and subserous membranes of the intestine and occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract (mesentery, omentum, hepatogastric ligament), but most commonly in the colon.

This condition may be associated with various diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, sigmoid volvulus, COPD and may mimic intestinal ischemia.
