Presentation

Diffuse abdominal pain and recurrent attacks of fever and easy fatigability

Patient Data

Age: 56 years old
Gender: Male

Ain air/fluid level is seen in between the left kidney and psoas muscle suggesting retroperitoneal abscess which is complicated with pneumoretroperitoneum. The air is seen at the posterior pararenal space and dissects to the anterior para renal space and tracks in front of the aorta and IVC. It also extends to the subphrenic space and mediastinum.

Case Discussion

Pneumoretroperitoneum occurs as a complication of retroperitoneal abscess. The patient underwent exploration and drainage for the abscess.
