Midline sternotomy wires and valvular prosthesis. Right internal jugular vein central venous line appropriately placed. Left lower lob collapse/consolidation. Small left pleural effusion. Left apical pneumothorax with a paucity of lung markings at the left lung apex. No mediastinal shift.
Case Discussion
After pleural drain removal, this can be due to an occult air leak, premature removal of the pleural drain (prior to full re-expansion of the lung), or due to air entering the thoracic cavity during drain removal.
