Prostate-specific antigen level of 5.41 ng/mL and a new diagnosis of intermediate-risk prostate cancer.
Patient Data
F-18 PSMA PET-CT demonstrates isolated focal intense uptake in the peripheral zone of the right prostate lobe, corresponding with biopsy-proven prostate cancer, Gleason 4+3=7. No enlarged or avid lymph nodes are present. No areas of avidity or anatomic findings suggestive of osseous or other distal metastases.
Case Discussion
This case demonstrates PSMA PET-CT findings of intermediate-risk prostate cancer isolated to the right lobe of the gland. The exam is indicated for staging in individuals with a new diagnosis of unfavorable intermediate risk (Gleason 4+3=7) or higher prostate cancer in order to assess extent of disease spread and help guide therapy.
The intense activity in the kidneys is physiological as is the moderate activity in the salivary glands, liver and spleen. Excreted radiotracer is present in the bladder and bowels.
