Presentation

Pain and swelling at the left ankle and foot after twisting the ankle now mild swelling warmth and tenderness over the base of the 5th metatarsal bone

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Nondisplaced transverse fracture and nondisplaced styloid fracture of the left 5th metatarsal bone base with mild soft tissue swelling.

Posterior spur of the calcaneus.

Case Discussion

A case of an avulsion fracture of the 5th metatarsal bone - the fracture is located less than 1 cm distal to the styloid, whereas a Jones fracture is typically located at the metadiaphyseal junction, approximately 2 cm distal to the tip of the styloid.
