Pseudoaneurysm of superficial femoral artery

Presentation

Swelling and redness of the femoroinguinal region after an unsuccessful attempt at common femoral vein catheterization.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female

Anechoic structure with some hyperechoic elements that represent blood clots, in the left inner thigh.

Color Doppler shows a connecting neck between this structure and the superficial femoral artery with internal swirling of the blood (yin-yang sign).

In CT angiography, the connecting neck from the superficial femoral artery to the pseudoaneurysm was depicted.

Subcutaneous hematoma and fluid collections around the pseudoaneurysm.

Case Discussion

The findings are typical for iatrogenic aneurysms of the superficial femoral artery.
