Patient Data

Heart size normal.  Left lung clear.

Case Discussion

Solitary lung opacity. In this case, incidentally identified on a plain radiograph.

It has a very smooth outline, however, this doesn't exclude neoplasia.

Not every lung opacity is cancer, however, the reality has now become that unless there is prior interval imaging and it remains unchanged, a CT chest to attempt to characterize the lesion is near inevitable.

This patient underwent CT chest (sadly not available) which demonstrated a fatty based pulmonary nodule with microcalcification consistent with a pulmonary hamartoma.

Not every opacity is lung cancer.
