There is an avulsion injury of the proximal phalangeal base of the right thumb, radial or lateral cortex. The right hand and thumb are otherwise normal.

Case Discussion

An example of an avulsion fracture involving the radial cortex of the proximal phalanx of the thumb. There is a likely radial collateral ligament avulsion injury, and hence further confirmatory ultrasound and/ or MRI was recommended. Radial collateral ligament injuries are less common in comparison to ulna collateral ligament injuries of the thumb.
