Stroke patient requiring gastrostomy feeding.
Patient Data
Procedure:
General anesthesia. NGT placed. Ultrasound liver markup. IV hyoscine given. Sterile technique.
Stomach inflated via NGT showing adequate distension.
LA to skin and soft tissues.
Small skin incisions. Three gastropexy sutures. 18G gastric puncture. Wire inserted and looped in the stomach. 8mm balloon plasty to tract.
16Fr tube advanced over the wire. 7mls of water inserted into the gastrostomy tube balloon. Contrast confirms adequate positioning i nthe stomach.
Bolster to skin. Gastropexy sutures shortened. Dressings applied.
On table CT spin confirms adequate positioning. Stomach deflated.
