Raised diaphragm due to gas-filled bowel.
Chilaiditi sign on the right side mimics gas under the diaphragm.
Case Discussion
In most cases this interposition is asymptomatic and this is known as Chilaiditi sign. The interposition may be intermittent.
Chilaiditi syndrome is an uncommon disorder characterized by pain resulting from interposition of a segment of the intestine between the right hemidiaphragm and liver.
This anatomical variation should not be confused with pneumoperitoneum which typically requires emergency surgery.
