Presentation

This patient came to the radiology department to perform a chest CT for staging breast neoplasia.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

CT images demonstrate a combination of a calcified granuloma in the peripheral lateral basal segment of the lower lobe of the left lung, associated with calcified hilar lymph nodes on the same side.

Impression: These findings are compatible with a sequel of tuberculosis, The Ranke complex.

Case Discussion

The Ranke complex represents a sequel of primary pulmonary tuberculosis 1-3. It consists of a combination of a calcified granuloma in the lung associated with ipsilateral calcified mediastinal or hilar lymph nodes with no significant meaning 1-3. This case demonstrates a typical presentation of the Ranke complex.
