The right kidney shows a well-defined isoechoic rounded cortical lesion in the midpole.

An isodense mass is observed in the mid-right kidney. It exhibits heterogeneous peripheral hyperenhancement on the arterial phase with a central hypodense core, indicating central necrosis. These features are suggestive of renal cell cancer (RCC) as the primary diagnosis.

There is no apparent calcification, extension into perirenal fat or vessel invasion. Additionally, no enlargement of locoregional lymph nodes is noted.

Case Discussion

Renal cell carcinoma is the most common malignancy of the kidney in adults. Although there are several histological subtypes, the majority are clear cell RCC, approaching nearly 80%.

About 50% of RCCs are incidental findings on imaging studies performed for non-urinary tract symptoms. The peak incidence of RCC is between 60 and 70 years.
