Presentation

Inpatient admission due to dehydration and acute kidney injury.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male

US Retroperitoneal Comp

ultrasound

Both kidneys have normal cortical echogenicity. No hydronephrosis or calculi. Right Kidney measures 9.0 cm in length while left Kidney measures 9.7 cm in length.

0.9 x 0.8 cm right kidney cyst and 0.8 x 0.9 cm left kidney cyst are noted.

Urinary Bladder: Unremarkable for degree of distension.

Case Discussion

This represents a case of bilateral renal cysts. The patient is a 60-year-old male who presented to the emergency department with hallucinations and suicidal ideations. Upon further history taking, he was found to be dehydrated with acute kidney injury suspicion. A retroperitoneal ultrasound revealed no abnormality. However, incidental renal cysts were found.
