Presentation
The patient presented with frank hematuria.
Patient Data
Grayscale and color Doppler ultrasound images show a hypoechoic hypovascular lesion within the upper part of the pelvicalyceal system, which causes expansion of the pelvicalyceal system, with no evidence of cortical extension.
Case Discussion
Transitional cell carcinoma, also known as urothelial cell carcinoma, is uncommon in comparison to renal cell carcinoma.
It usually occurs anywhere along the urinary tract in males patients between 60-70 years old.
The patient usually presented with micro or macroscopic hematuria.
In an ultrasound examination, it appears as a hypoechoic solid mass within the pelvicalyceal system.
It should not be mistaken for hydronephrosis.
