Presentation
History of falling from stairs and hitting the right hand on the floor yesterday afternoon. The local examination of the right hand shows moderate tenderness over the base of the thumb and index finger, mild swelling mild restricted range of motion.
Patient Data
1st right metacarpal base comminuted fracture is noted with intra-articular extension
Minimal subluxation of the 1st carpometacarpal joint is noted
Case Discussion
Rolando fracture refers to a fracture-dislocation of the base of the thumb (proximal first metacarpal) that can be categorized as a three-part or comminuted intra-articular fracture. Essentially, it can also be considered as a type of comminuted Bennett fracture.
