Presentation

Rugby tackle injury to index finger.

Patient Data

Age: 14 years
Gender: Male

Longitudinally oriented fracture through the 2nd digit middle phalangeal base which involves both metaphysis and epiphysis in keeping with a Salter-Harris 4 fracture. No significant intra-articular displacement is evident, however the lateral projection demonstrates some mild dorsal angulation of the metaphyseal fragment. The PIPJ is normally aligned and no other fracture of the 2nd digit is identified. The 3rd digit demonstrates normal alignment with no fracture evident.
