Salter-Harris type IV fracture of distal tibia

Distal tibia fracture. Fracture line passes directly through the metaphysis, growth plate and down through the epiphysis, in keeping with Salter-Harris type IV fracture. Ankle joint effusion is seen on lateral view. Soft tissue swelling is also noted.
Case Discussion
Salter-Harris type IV fractures are intra-articular injuries which have a poor prognosis due to articular cartilage damage. Therefore, these fractures require urgent orthopedic evaluation.
