The fracture line through the scaphoid proximal pole is associated with bone marrow edema/bruise, volar displacement of the scaphoid distal pole and increased scapholunate angle measuring 79 degrees.
Bone marrow edema/bruise also is seen at the trapezoid, 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bases.
Case Discussion
A scaphoid fracture is common. In some instances, it can be difficult to diagnose and can result in significant functional impairment. Fractures can occur anywhere along the scaphoid, but distribution is not even and fractures through the distal pole are relatively rare.
