Presentation

Colon carcinoma with hepatic metastases. Ultrasound demonstrated multiple cystic lesions.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years

There is a multilobulated, cystic, intrahepatic metastatic deposit within the right lobe of the liver. There is upstream bile duct distention.

The combined effect gives rise to the appearance of a three-leaf clover (shamrock) with its stalk.

Case Discussion

An unexpected finding of an unusual, multilobulated, cystic lesion within the right lobe of the liver, segment 7, with proximal bile duct distention giving rise to the appearance of a shamrock/three-leaf clover.

A shamrock is a type of clover and is a widely used symbol representing Ireland and worn especially on St Patrick's Day.
