Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female

Bilateral different-size, dense nodules diffuse throughout both breasts' parenchyma, extending to the subcutaneous tissue, representing silicone granulomas according to the patient's history of breast augmentation with free silicone breast injections.

Case Discussion

Breast injection with free silicone is a type of breast augmentation procedure. It causes significant parenchymal changes and granuloma formation that reduce the sensitivity of breast mammograms by obscuring underlying lesions if present.

The differential diagnosis of multiple breast nodules on mammograms includes:

  • metastases

  • multiple fibroadenomas

  • multiple cysts

  • skin lesions (e.g. neurofibromas)
