Case Discussion

Simple renal cysts are the most common type of renal cysts, and their incidence increases with the patient's age. These cysts may be single or multiple and are usually asymptomatic. Further management is not necessary unless the cyst develops complications 1.

The Bosniak classification system of renal cystic masses divides cystic masses into five categories and helps determine the risk of malignancy and possible follow up or treatment 2.

This is a case of a benign simple cyst (Bosniak I) as illustrated by the lack of enhancement, thin walls and hypoattenuating fluid. There are also no calcifications, septa or solid components.

Further management is not indicated.
