Spontaneous pneumothorax

Case contributed by Guillermo César Vélez Parra
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Sudden SOB.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

In these frontal and lateral views we can observe a pneumothorax with air-fluid level in the right hemithorax. Normal atelectatic lung parenchyma.

Case Discussion

Its important when we see a hyperlucent hemithorax to suspect pneumothorax, which lacks blood vessels.

Don't forget the costophrenic angles. When we see an air-fluid level it suggests hydropneumothorax or hemopneumothorax.
