Presentation

Facial lump

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

A well-circumscribed necrotic/cystic lesion is identified arising from the right parotid gland superficial lobe. Peripheral enhancement is present.

No other suspicious parotid lesion.

Cutaneous/subcutaneous lesion in the right temporal fossa consistent with known squamous cell carcinoma.

Nuclear medicine

Increased FDG uptake is identified at the right temporal cutaneous lesion and the right parotid nodal metastasis.

No distant metastatic disease was identified.

Case Discussion

The parotid gland is the first-order nodal station for cutaneous malignancies of the anterior scalp, face and ear.

Squamous cell carcinoma nodal metastases are commonly necrotic.
