Presentation

Trauma to thumb

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
mri

Complete tear of distal attachment of ulnar collateral ligament of metacarpophalangeal joint of left thumb with proximal retraction. Interpositioning of adductor pollicis aponeurosis is seen between torn ulnar collateral ligament and metacarpophalangeal joint.

Low to intermediate grade sprain of proximal radial collateral ligament of metacarpophalangeal joint is also seen.

Bone contusion with marrow edema is seen in head of 1st metacarpal with suspicious loose body adjacent to it. Surrounding soft tissue edema is seen.

Visualized flexor and extensor tendons are unremarkable.

Case Discussion

Findings are consistent with a Stener lesion. A characteristic Yoyo on a string sign is seen.
