Presentation
Status post right frontotemporal craniotomy for an orbital tumor.
Patient Data
Improved mass effect in the orbit post resection of mass.
Following craniotomy, there is a new subdural collection of air and blood measuring up to 1 cm. There is no parenchymal bleed. No midline shift. There is overlying soft tissue swelling with a drain. Fixations of the craniotomy extends to the zygoma.
There is chronic ischemic white matter disease.
Case Discussion
Subdural hematoma (SDH) refers to bleeding within the space between the dura and arachnoid membranes surrounding the brain. The most common cause is due to head trauma. Another mechanism as a cause of SDH includes surgery, as in our case. The patient was managed expectantly.
