Surfactant deficiency disorder and Broviac line

Presentation

Premature delivery at 29 weeks. Insertion of Broviac line. X-ray to check position.

Patient Data

Age: 33 weeks
Gender: Male

The lung fields are mildly hyperinflated. The trachea is central. The cardiomediastinal contour is normal. The NG tube is satisfactorily sited. There are overlying ECG leads. There is an overlying temperature lead.

There is a right subclavian access Broviac line insitu, this is correctly sited at the superior atriocaval junction.

Resolving surfactant deficiency disorder (day 27). The bowel gas pattern is non-specific and normal.

There are 12 pairs of ribs. The humeral ossification centers are absent.

Case Discussion

An example of a Broviac line in a premature neonate with surfactant deficiency disorder (respiratory distress syndrome). There is right subclavian access, with the tip satisfactorily sited at the atriocaval junction.
