The MRI sequences reveal a bone contusion involving the medial aspect, and lower pole of the patella as well as the lateral femoral condyle. The medial patellar retinaculum is thickened with an abnormal intrinsic high signal. Mild joint effusion is noted. No chondral or osteochondral injury is seen.
Case Discussion
The pattern of the bone contusion of the patella, and the lateral femoral condyle, as well as the presence of an abnormal medial retinaculum, suggests the diagnosis of transient lateral dislocation of the patella
