Presentation
History of trauma. Complaining of pain and limitation of flexion.
Patient Data
Altered signal and thickening of the infrapatellar tendon, which appears hyperintense on the T2W and T2 F-SAT images, and hypointense on T1W images, represents partial thickness tear / sprain
Patchy hyperintense signal seen on the T2 FSAT and T2W images in the patella, which turns hypointense signal on the T1W images, represents bone bruising / edema.
Case Discussion
Tears of the patellar tendon (PT) occur less frequently and are rarely associated with intra-articular pathology.
Acute combined tears of both the ACL and PT are known complications of high-energy traumatic knee dislocations.
