Presentation

Obvious ankle deformity upon physical examination. Motor vehicle collision.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Triimalleolar ankle fracture-dislocation. Lateral malleolar fracture at the level of the syndesmosis, in keeping with a Weber type B lateral malleolus fracture associated with a medial malleolar fracture at the tibial plafond level, and a posterior malleolar fracture. Subluxation of the ankle joint.

Case Discussion

The malleoli function as stabilizers of the ankle, because of this, trimalleolar fractures can be associated with dislocations of the ankle joint.

Trimalleolar ankle fractures are inherently unstable and usually require surgical treatment.
