Tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis

Presentation

Right anterior neck lump for the last few days.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

At the site of the clinically visible nodule, there is a collection (30 x 20 x 18 mm - 6 cc) with internal echoes with surrounding soft tissue edema. The abscess shows extension in the overlying clavicular head of the right sternocleidomastoid muscle through a tiny communication in the posterior surface of the muscle. Few local smaller non-necrotic lymph nodes are present. Patent internal jugular vein and carotid artery.

The short-axis cine-loop runs from the cranial to the caudal direction.

Case Discussion

The patient presented with a right-sided neck nodule without significant pain/ fever. The ultrasound shows an abscess due to necrotic lymphadenopathy. The abscess shows extension in the clavicular head of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

Biopsy revealed tuberculous etiology.
