Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

Avulsion fracture of the left aspect of the tip of the odontoid process of C2. The base of the odontoid process is intact. Normal alignment of the atlanto-axial joints. No occipital condyle or C1 lateral mass fracture.

Case Discussion

Type 1 fracture of the odontoid process according to the Anderson and D'Alonzo classification. The fracture is the least common type and involves the odontoid process above the level of the transverse band of the cruciform ligament.
