Presentation
Pain in the right hip after falling. Total hip arthroplasty 20 and 30 years ago in the right and left hips.
Patient Data
A minimally displaced periprosthetic fracture is visible around the lateral aspect of the stem of the prosthesis, corresponding to a Vancouver B1 fracture (see key image). Porotic bone structure. Incidentally an inhomogenous calcified mass is visible in the pelvis.
Non-contrast CT demonstrates a minimally displaced fracture, as well as the separation of a small cortical fragment. Extremely osteoporotic bones. The calcified masses in the pelvis are most likely fibroids that had undergone degeneration (see soft tissue window).
Case Discussion
Typical presentation of Vancouver B1 periprosthetic hip fracture.
