Presentation

Pain abdomen since 4 weeks, abnormal liver function test, new onset diabetes

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

A pocket of fluid with well defined walls, showing internal areas of fat density is noted at pancreatic and peri-pancreatic regions.

Areas of hypoenhancement seen at pancreatic head/uncinate process region with fluid and thickening of right anterior renal fascia.

There is mild extrinsic compression of superior mesenteric vein without any other vascular complication.

Case Discussion

Walled-off pancreatic necrosis (WOPN) is a late complication of acute pancreatitis, usually occurs four weeks after the episode.

It shows encapsulated heterogeneous non-liquefied material consists of necrosis and subsequent liquefaction of pancreatic and/or peripancreatic tissue.
